Raisins, like other dried fruits (apricots, figs, plums) are concentrated sources of energy, vitamins, minerals and antioxidants. 100 g of raisins provide 249 calories, several times more fiber than fresh grapes, vitamins, minerals and antioxidants such as polyphenols. Other components are contained in a lower percentage than fresh grapes (eg vitamin C, folate, carotenes, lutein and xanthines), like grapes, raisins contain resveratrol.
Resveratrol is an antioxidant polyphenol, which has anti-inflammatory and anti-cancer effects, and contributes to the reduction of blood cholesterol. Studies show that resveratrol may be protective against certain cancers such as colon and prostate cancer.
Its possible positive role in cardiovascular diseases, degenerative diseases of the nervous system and viral/fungal infections is also being considered.
