It started to have an economic interest in Crete after 1922 when the refugees from Asia Minor arrived.<br \/>\nThe refugees had a lot of experience in growing sultanas and also had large export houses.<br \/>\nThe crop in the greater Smyrna region in 1915 was about 1,000,000 acres of sultanas grafted on American stock most of the time.<br \/>\nThe production of sultana raisins in Greece in 1925 was 8,000 tons from 1938 to 1960 it was 30,000 tons. In 1983 we had the largest raisin production of around 102,000 tons.
